Install deliberately.
- Obtain the intended DMG from the trusted test source and compare its checksum.
- Quit any previous copy normally. Open the DMG and drag Permatext into Applications.
- Eject the image and open the copy in Applications.
- If macOS blocks this specific trusted app, review System Settings → Privacy & Security for an app-specific Open Anyway option. Follow the prompt only if you trust the source.
- Follow onboarding. Grant the required read access, select a conversation, explicitly authorize it, and start monitoring.
If macOS reports malware, a modified app or a damaged download, stop and report the warning. Do not disable Gatekeeper or remove quarantine as a workaround. Apple’s app safety guidance ↗
Full Disk Access
Permatext reads the protected local Messages database. Open the appropriate macOS settings from onboarding and grant access to the exact installed app if you choose. Folder access alone does not prove Full Disk Access; macOS may require quitting and reopening the app. Permissions are never changed automatically.
Upgrading an existing copy?
Keep the existing archive and keys intact. Do not reset data to resolve an unlock or permission error. Ad-hoc signature changes may affect OS approvals and Keychain access; broader upgrade validation remains pending.
